Merkaba
Hello Friends,
Please note: It would be best if you could view the upper image from back a little at approximately a 45 degree angle, which was more or less the angle of my camera relative to the 18" x 30" maple table top I used as backdrop.
We were in Santa Fe, New Mexico this past week, and as we often have we stayed at an Airbnb hosted by Christopher Murphy. He has a few rooms he lets out in his comfortable ranch style house.
Christopher is a modern day rennaisance man. He's a musician, an artist, author of several books, a master woodworker, and a professional maker of beautiful highly functional furniture.
Christopher made the art piece in the upper image, a Merkaba. It hangs in the passageway from the front door.
Per Christopher: "The "art-piece" is a Merkaba, a 3D version of the 2D cutting board which becomes 3D if you stare at it. More info: https://buddhaandkarma.com/blogs/guide/merkaba-meaning#:~:text=A%20Merkaba%20is%20a%20mystical
And from that website:
"... the Merkaba comes from three ancient Egyptian words: Mer, denoting light; Ka, which alludes to the spirit; and Ba, indicating the body. Together, they encapsulate the idea of the spirit and body being enveloped in light.
Visually, the Merkaba represents two interlocked tetrahedrons (a three-dimensional triangle with four faces), creating a three-dimensional Star of David."
Christopher designed and built the table and chairs in the lower image. This three-sided table, with flush Lazy Susan is made of northern black walnut. The chairs were extremely comfortable, great back support. Christopher can be reached at xtopha@comcast.net if you're interested in his amazing hand crafted pieces. This lower image was converted from a 2D cellphone shot with Leiapix.
Wishing you the best in the holiday season,
Barry Rothstein
