A Nod to Architecture
Hi All,
We're in Cocoa Beach, Florida this weekend taking a break from watching our granddaughter in Miami. Cocoa Beach is an interesting town, kind of classic and dumpy in a nice way. My only past knowledge of it was where the astronauts lived in the 1960's "I Dream of Genie" series. It's home to the original Ron Jon Surf Shop, which these days is the Taj Mahal of surf shops, and open 24 hours (really). If passing through I'd gladly recommend Sandbar Sports Grill for reasonably priced drinks with generous pours, great bar food, and live music. Mangia & Bevi Pizzeria Napoletana is amazing, authentic, a solid 5 star gem hiding in plain sight in a strip mall.
We hiked today at Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary, one of many good birding locations in the area. Betsy and I are nicely compatible hiking buddies, she looking in the trees and skies for birds, me at eye level and below for interesting 3-D subjects, both of us spotting for each other.
I'd only just started to tell Betsy to keep an eye out for interesting ant hills when I looked down and spotted this one, a triumph in structure and symmetry. In the time I sat to photograph it it was never exactly swarming with ants, but as you can imagine, my attentions made them pretty scarce. Out of all the shots I took the most ants in any shot was two or three. The diameter at the top of this hill was approximately two inches.
