A Pileup of Realists
Hi All,
It's not a good idea to treat your nice cameras this way. This is another image from this past Maker Faire in San Mateos, a pileup of three Kodak Stereo-Realist Cameras, brought to the event by Alan Kikuchi. Says Alan, ...
My cameras are Kodak Stereo Cameras from 1954-1959. Since these cameras are so old, it's rare to find them in good shape and in working condition. The cameras in your photo were custom rebuilt. I cleaned the shutters and optics, replaced the leather on the fronts and knobs with custom colors and textures and replaced any damaged parts with better ones from cameras bought on Ebay for parts. To add another special touch, the backs are powder coated with custom colors. I really like shooting with these and it seemed like the only way to have nice working ones was to figure out how to repair them myself.
Today we attended a "Families Belong Together" rally and march in downtown Long Beach. Having lived in southern California and seeing the nature of numerous 'illegal' immigrants, having worked with them and having had them as friends and employees, I've found they are the embodiment of the 'American dream', just like my grandparents and others who came here hoping for a better life for themselves and their families. Demonizing them is done solely for political gain, with no regard for the truth. There is no crisis at the border, no need to clamp down, let alone incarcerate them or seperate adults from children. These are the people who grow and pick our crops, take care of our elderly, work in our restaurants, build our houses, and in the process contribute to the greatness of our society. They are us and we are them.
