Buddha's Hand
Today our family attended the memorial for our cousin Frieda Rapaport Caplan, the founder of Frieda's, a produce company specializing in exotic species. Frieda was known as the "Kiwi Queen", having re-named and introduced kiwi fruit to the USA marketplace back in the 1980s. Having made it to 96 years of age, she was an innovater and popularized over 200 new plant species to us. You can find her trademark on purple labels in many supermarkets across the country.
This is a Buddha's Hand, viewed from a couple of angles. Text directly lifted from the web, "Buddha's Hand smells sweet, a bit lemony and similar to lavender. It has no juice, seeds or pulp. The oily pith, unlike in other fruits where it can be bitter, is sweet. The fruit can be used whole or can be zested." I shot this with a Fuji W3 stereo camera.
Over the past few years I'd frequently run into Frieda at political protests. She was a strong proponent of standing up and speaking out, and was an inspiration to me and many others. And so speak out I do.
The Trump administration has moved beyond being merely a potential danger to our democracy. He's a full on force working to eliminate our democratic institutions. We must keep alert and actively fight the authoritarian revolution he and his people are trying to produce. We must stand up to him despite the risks of doing so.
For a little fun watch this YouTube music video "The Day Democracy Died", a parody on the Trump administration set to the tune of Don McLean's "American Pie".
