A Nest of Mourning Doves
Hi All,
We had a rare opportunity yesterday to rescue this pair of nearly fledgling Mourning Doves. Amid the demolition of part of our roof to accomodate a house addition, the workers found this nesting pair. Carefully they handed it down to me, setting into rapid motion two priorities: 1) photograph them; and 2) relocate the nest and hope for the best.
While not a National Geographic caliber photo, I'm happy to report that mom and her two birds seem content with their new location on a crossbeam under the eve on the other side of our house. I'm told that this birds name comes from its mournful sounding cry, and relieved that no actual mourning was needed in this case.
