Cat at Hemingway Home (and a rant)
Hi All,
We spent a few days in Key West, Florida, the southern most place in the continental USA (Hawaii is farther south). One of the most popular attractions in town there is the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. A literary mega-star in his time Hemingway's books and movies made of them were wildly popular both during and after his lifetime.
The house/museum is filled with over fifty cats, many of them six toed (polydactyl) and descendents of cats that live during Hemingway's life there. In a downstairs living room there's a wall dedicated to his fishing boat, "Pilar," and a display case of maps and fishing gear. This cat (not sure of its name) hopped onto the case and sat a while.
Using the sides of the case as reference for a rectangle, I turned the image into a phantogram approximation. Excuse the blur of the cat's head, he/she was scratching itself. That and the low light in the room made for a longer exposure than ideal for capturing a moving subject.
As to the rant:
Words don't come close to describing my disgust at the treachery and complicity of Republicans in the US Congress as they enable Trump and attempt to steamroll a political hack and historically unpopular candidate onto the Supreme Court. This nomination if successful will turn the clock far back on women's rights and choices, and continue to pave the way toward preference of money and corporate power over protecting the rights of individuals.
Having successfully stolen Obama's constitutional right to nominate a justice, they now rush to confirm a man who is known to have lied to the Senate in a previous confirmation hearing. Kavanaugh now stands accused of attempted rape as a young man, an accusation the Republicans refuse to dignify with a valid investigation. This coming week will demonstrate to us what our country is becoming, and I fear for us all.
