Underwater photography by Paul V. Schmieder and 2-D to 3-D conversions by Leiapix
Hello Friends,
Paul Schmieder is an old college buddy, a world traveller, scuba diver and photographer. For the past several years he's made it a point of experiencing first hand many of the great dive spots in the world, and has become highly proficient at underwater photography. While I've enjoyed the fruits of his passion, I've often chided him with, "I wish they were in 3-D."
A few months ago I was told by a few people in the 3-D community that 2-D to 3-D conversions were available for free from a company called LeiaPix, and that these conversions were quite good. In the past I've attempted a couple of such conversions with minimal success. Some people are very good at them, but they typically required a great amount of time to do one well. At art fairs and other events I've often been asked "... so can I send you my 2-D images and you'll make 3-D images of them for me?" to which I replied, "... no, it's a time consuming process, and expensive to order."
At the most recent National Stereoscopic Association convention in Buffalo, New York, George Themelis had a workshop showing some LeiaPix free conversions and compared them with conversions by a professional who does them (known as William 3D from China). The LeiaPix conversions seemed just as good, so it got me to start experimenting. Here I present for your enjoyment three of Paul Schmieder's 2-D underwater images converted to 3-D. Paul's images are wonderful, and I think the 3-D conversions are quite good.
You can discover more about Paul and his photography at https://www.scenebypaul.me/wow.
Recently LeiaPix started charging for their 3-D conversions, but the amount is quite nominal compared to their value, a fraction of a dollar for each image so converted and exported. LeiaPix is also the producer of the Lume Pad, a wonderful glasses free 3-D tablet computer. Their website is https://www.leiapix.com/.
As such I'm adding 2-D to 3-D conversion and optimization to my 3-D offerings. If you're interested let me know. On a trial $1 for the first image and $5 for any more I'll work them for you, satisfaction guaranteed. Or you can learn to work them yourself on Leiapix's website.
Best regards,
Barry Rothstein
