Abe Fagenson's Stereoscopic Paintings
Hello Friends,
I'll be going today to an at-home memorial for Abe Fagenson, a wonderful artist, friend, and fine human being, a real mensch. He made it to 99, a formidable age, and would have turned 100 this past week.
I present these images here as I usually do, with an anaglyph above and smaller RLR side-by-side images below. Abe's images really weren't made for anglyph, but some hold up pretty well. I hope you enjoy them as anaglyphs, but better yet hope you can free-view them one way or the other.
I became aware of Abe's 3-D paintings at a National Stereoscopic Association conference in 2008, where Abe's wife Marge taught me how to cross-eye view, a skill I've since used more days than not. A few years ago I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Abe sharing our techniques.
Abe painted in acrylics. It seems to me that his earliest stereoscopic renderings were of simple and progressively more complex geometric designs. Later he moved into the shapes of life and nature, always conscious of how he extended into the Z-space. Abe's paintings were an inspiration to many if the 3-D community, including Ray Zone, who made a number of his own stereo paintings. Words cannot express how much I've come to enjoy Abe's work, so I strongly recommend you check out the gallery at his website at https://abefagenson.com/. NOTE: As I'm writing this the site's images aren't loading, and the problem may persist a couple of days. If you encounter this problem please try again later.
Regards,
Barry Rothstein
