Once again I'm offering a neighborhood macro, shot with a Panasonic Lumix GX7, 3-D lens, and frame sides for phantogram processing. I showed this plant back in December, so here you can see them in an earlier-in-the-season state.
Hey!!! It's not too late for some great 3-D fun. This years National Stereoscopic Association's virtual convention is running through Sunday. It's free, although you'll need some 3-D glasses. Check it out at https://www.3d-con.com/index.php. A bunch of talented techy types put together a truly amazing 3-D experience. Check out the website. Much to most of the convention is on YouTube.
As to this week's rant:
I'm very happy with Joe Biden's VP pick. While I worked for Elizabeth Warren's campaign until she dropped out, I think Joe made the best choice for V.P. He picked someone strong, vibrant, smart, articulate, passionate and compassionate, someone who will be an asset in the campaign and a partner in governance. And by selecting a woman of color, Joe embraced our need to include everyone.
I'm scared. I lost sleep this week for the first time in a while, disturbed by the Trump administration's assault on the US Post Office. His claims linking mail-in voting to massive fraud we all know are self-serving crap aimed solely for voter suppression. The math is easy, the more people who vote, the less are his chances. Equally disturbing is Postmaster Louis DeJoy's dismantling the mechanisms and personnel of the USPS, intentionally slowing the mail. His purpose is to call into question the reliability of the USPS, and set it up for failure and chaos in the election.
Trump knows he can't win a fair fight, and he will do anything to be re-elected. Anything, no matter how much carnage he creates, and likely gleeful in his ability to tear us apart. That he does it in plain sight and admits to it is all the more chilling, but he's been doing that all along.
This week Barack Obama put out a call to action for young people. Yes, VOTE. But more, sign up to become a poll worker. Learn how and support our democracy right at its source, voting. The problem is that the vast number of poll workers are nice old people like me. COVID-19 makes my old crowd a little nervous about working indoors for long stretches. So I join with our past President and ask you to talk about it and encourage healthy young people volunteer in this way.
We live in very strange times, wishing us all well,
Barry Rothstein
I send out a weekly email of these. If you'd like to be included, please go to the contact page and send me an email.
