Uromastyx -- Mali Spiny Tailed Lizard
Uromastyx are found primarily in arid regions from northwestern India through southwestern Asia, and the Arabian Peninsula to the African Sahara. There are six known species. They're known for their defensive stragegy of digging a hole and entering head first, leaving only their spiny tail accessible prey animals. I photographed this one at Star Eco Station in Culver City. This is a phantogram, and you're welcome to print it out to see if properly back from an angle, or better yet view it on an RGB device such as an iPad or other tablet device. This also marks my 100th 'image-of-the-week'.
This week the 3-D community was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Ray Zone. A friend and mentor to many, myself included, Ray was probably the best known stereographer and 3-D historian in the world. Well known for his 3-D conversions for numerous comic books, he was an extraordinary artist, filmmaker, consultant and historian, and a consistent and generous resource of 3-D knowledge to many of us. It's hard to imagine future 3-D events without his warm and charming presence.
