In Need of Comfort
So, what can I say? Clearly we live in very strange times. I took this shot with a Fuji W3 and used the rectangular shape of the paper to make it a phantogram.
And what of the competency and effectiveness of the Trump admninstration? An exerp from yesterday's Washington Post article titled "Trump is breaking every rule in the CDC’s 450-page playbook for health crisis":
"When asked at a news conference Friday why he disbanded the White House’s pandemic office, Trump denied doing so, saying, “I didn’t do it … I don’t know anything about it.” When asked if he bore any responsibility for disastrous delays in testing, Trump said no, blaming instead “circumstances” and “regulations” created by others."
In the last 24 hours I've been to both a Trader Joe's and a Costco store. Trader Joe's was yesterday afternoon. There were perhaps 2-3 time the usual number of customers in the store, and some shelves were bare or getting there. The lines were longer than usual, but every checkout station was manned or womanned, so it didn't take much more time than usual. We needed to pick up a prescription at Costco pharmacy today. Lines to get in for normal shopping were long, looked like maybe a 30 minute wait to get in. I'm happy to say that as a pharmacy customer we were sent to the tire department where a Costco employee escorted us straight to the pharmacy. The line there was short and took perhaps 10 minutes.
In every case and in every place we've been the past few days we experienced perfect civility, friendliness and kindness. There's nothing like a global pandemic to so clearly establish that we're all in this together and bring out (almost) our best.
