The Deer of Miyajima
Hi All,
A little road weary, we made it home yesterday after two weeks in Korea and Japan.
This shot was taken at Itsukushima, an island in the western part of the Inland Sea of Japan, in the northwest of Hiroshima Bay. It is popularly known as Miyajima, which in Japanese means the Shrine Island (ref from Wikipedia).
Deer are thought of as sacred in the native Shinto religion because they are considered messengers of the gods. They walk the streets of the city, not afraid of the tourists. This is a point-and-shoot phantogram approximation I shot with a Fujifilm W3 stereo camera.
Another place we found deer roaming freely was Nara, a very old city of Japan, and a place we found entirely charming. The few hours we spent there was far from enough.
