Matsumoto Castle
Hello Friends,
I still have a great number of images to show from Japan. This one is of Matsumoto Castle in the city of Matsumoto, in the mountainous prefecture of Nagano. The castle is five stories high. Its steep steps inside make it a bit of a challenge to go to the top. By this point in the trip Betsy's knees were shot, so she waited in the garden below. According to wikipedia: "Matsumoto Castle, originally known as Fukashi Castle, is one of Japan's premier historic castles, along with Himeji and Kumamoto. The building is also known as the 'Crow Castle' due to its black exterior. It was the seat of Matsumoto Domain under the Edo Period Tokugawa shogunate.'
I've found that my cellphone (Google Pixel 6 Pro) has better resolution than my Fuji W3, so for still-live shots I've been doing a lot of cha-cha shots, first shooting a left eye image, then sliding right and shooting the right eye image. I took six steps in between the left and right eye images, so the interocular distance was perhaps fifteen feet.
Given the stereo pair I auto-aligned and cropped with StereoPhoto Maker.
On each floor of the castle there were displays, mostly of weaponry, and some illustrating what life was like in the castle.
On the top floor facing each of the four directions I found (approximately) six inch square openings to the left and right of center, allowing me cha-cha shots approximately eight feet apart. If you email me back I'll send you these views, along with a shot of me guarding the castle with my master.
Regards,
Barry Rothstein
I send out a weekly email of these. If you'd like to be included, please go to the contact page and send me an email.
