Surprise Glacier
Hello Friends,
I got a lot of nice comments regarding last week's hyper-stereo image of Hurrican Gulch, so I thought I'd follow up with another hyper-stereo from a moving vehicle on our recent trip to Alaska. Last week's was done off a moving train, this one off a moving boat.
We took a six-hour boat tour out of Seward to see the Kenai Fjords. I'd strongly recommend it when you're up there. We say a few Orca whales from a distance, some sea lions sun-bathing on rocks, and a couple of swimming sea otters. The highlight of the tour was a stretch of perhaps 20 minutes watching numerous Humpback whales up fairly close "bubble hunting" and engaging in a feeding frenzy. If you ever see me ask to see my cellphone videos of them.
This image of (I believe it's) Surprise Glacier was produced by two shots from my Google Pixel 6 Pro cellphone from the boat. I'm not sure of the inter-ocular distance between the two, perhaps a few feet, perhaps more. I was just shoot-shoot-shooting as the ship passed by. I brought two consecutive cellphone shots into StereoPhoto Maker, auto-adjusted and cropped them into this image, and adjusted it a bit further in Photoshop. The glaciers up there have receeded greatly in recent years, I'm told they're nothing like they once were.
Regards,
Barry Rothstein
