Beehive Ginger
Hello Friends,
Perhaps the most of fascinating plants I found in Costa Rica was beehive ginger (aka "Ginger wort" or "Malaysian ginger"). Zingiber spectabile's leaves are long and mostly oblong shaped, tapering to a single point at their tip. The bracts attached to the structure can differ in colour, from white, to yellow, orange, or red, often darkening as the bracts mature and develop. It has been used in traditional medicine to treat inflammation of the eyes, and has antimicrobial properties, and significant concentrations of the Zerumbone synthase enzyme, which may be effective in treating colon cancer.
From the perspective of a stereographer they're a dream to photograph. This shot was taken with my Panasonic Lumix GX7 macro camera with a 3D lens and using frame sides for phantogram processing.
