Golden Birdwing Butterfly
Hi All,
Golden Birdwing butterflies (troides rhadamantus) come from the Philippines. I shot this at a butterfly at the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory with a Panasonic Lumix GX7 using a 3-D lens. It is a (shudder) traditional 3-D image and not a phantogram.
Of late words fail me in consideration of the continuing horrors of the Trump presidency and his administration. I'm thankful that come January with the installation of a new House of Representatives, oversight and the power of the subpoena will shed light and curtail many of the most overt abuses.
For historical perspective you might enjoy two MSNBC Rachel Maddow productions:
Bagman is multi-part podcast in progress telling the story of Nixon's vice president Spiro Agnew and his practice of demanding envelopes of cash for construction contracts. Agnew's shakedowns dated back to his days as a Baltimore county executive, govenor of Maryland, and all the way through to his time in the White House. To deflect to his crimes Agnew blamed the press and the US justice department of a 'witch hunt'. Sound familiar?
Betrayal, the Plot that Won the White House is a 44 minute telecast describing Nixon's successful efforts to win the presidency in 1968 by secretly derailing LBJ's proposed Paris peace talks to end the Vietnam War. Nixon feared the end of the war would undermine his chances in the election. Extensively documented by LBJ and kept out of the public record for 50 years, prolonging the war cost an additional 20,000+ American and far more Vietnamese lives.
Happy holidays!
