In Need of Wisdom
Hi All,
This is a live barn owl I photographed at the California Democratic convention in Long Beach this past November. It was part of a small nature exhibit promoting the nearby Los Cerritos Wetlands. It was a snapshot with a Fuji W3. The backdrop of the shot wasn't very appealing to me, so I somewhat clumsily masked the bird from the backdrop. I hope you enjoy it.
Those of you who've put up with my semi-regular rants the past few years might think I like politics, but in fact the opposite is true. I'm loathe to spend my mental energy entrenched in the political machinations of our two-party system. It's only out of a sense of urgency, duty, and even patriotism that I've found myself needing to speak out. I'd like to think that a year from now I'll go back to simply sending out 3-D images.
2019 has been a tumultuous year politically, and it looks fairly certain that 2020 will be even more so. We are all in great need of wisdom and compassion to weed through what we hear from the media and even trusted friends, to seek out facts and truth from noise, falsehoods and confusion.
I believe there is a lot at stake in the coming election regarding who we are as a people, and what will become of the American experiement with democracy and multi-culturalism. I hope and pray we can live up to the test facing us, and come out a stronger and better country.
In the meantime, I wish you all a happy and healthy new year.
