The Deep State (a rant)

Hi All,

This image, named "The Baker's Fugitive" is a repeat, originally presented as an image-of-the-week on July 7, 2012. It was created by James Staub and won the award for Best Still Life image in our 2012 Intergalactic Phantogram Competition. It's a good reminder that a phantogram can just as easily sink below the page as rise above it. I thought it a reasonably fitting image to accompany this rant. What's said below are my words, and don't represent Jim's opinions.

To Trump and his loyal followers:

Yes, let me affirm that there is a Deep State. I belong to the Deep State.

We are deep in that there are a lot of us. We are the majority of voting age Americans.

We are united in a state of mind, in the belief that you degrade us, threaten us, endanger us, and promote the worst our society has to offer.

We of the Deep State are tired of you, weary of seeing your face, made ill by the constant meaningless noise spouting from you, and aghast that your decisions affect us all.

So know well that we're here, in plain sight, all around you, and know how much you have done to unite us to fight you.

My words aren't adequate, just a cry out into a dark void. They don't do anything, but they're all I have for now. My gratitude goes out to the thousands or perhaps millions of school children throughout the world who skipped school yesterday to protest our world's failure to address climate change. My heart goes out to our Muslim brothers and sisters, the victims of this past week's horrendous violence in New Zealand.
