Heading Back in Time
Hello Friends,
Several years ago I had the opportunity to photograph a nice collection of antique toys. Embarrisingly I forget the occasion that brought it about or whose collection this shot was from, but in looking for an image for today I thought this one might do. It was shot with my first digital camera, a Canon G2, using a home-made slide bar. The backdrop for this shot was a plain 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper.
Given the current state of the country I expect I'll be compelled to comment more frequently than I've done over the past four years. This past week, the first of Trump's second term, has brought us what we could pretty much expect. Among his first actions as our president he reversed out Biden's hard fought policy to bring down the cost of prescription drugs, declared the end of birthright citizenship and let out of jail hundreds of violent January 6 (2021) rioters, returning them to their communities.
Last night our gutless US Senate barely confirmed Fox News host and drunken party boy Pete Hegseth as our new Secretary of Defense. Pam Bondi, who as Florida's attorney general declined to sue Trump along with other states over the fraudulent Trump University real estate scam, after getting $25K from a Trump related PAC, will no doubt be confirmed as the US attorney general. Waiting in the wings are Cash Patel to head the FBI and Tulsi Gabbard to be our director of national intelligence. Amid the potentially disastrous outbreak of bird flu, the CDC has been ordered to pause any further public communications or guidelines in dealing with it or any other threats to public health.
I could go on and on, but it's kind of pointless. Throughout the government people who actually know how to do their jobs are being let go, to be replaced by knuckleheads loyal to the president. Does any of this matter? What could possibly go wrong?
Regards,
Barry Rothstein
