Red Bryony
Hello Friends,
I've not been doing much active shooting this past couple of weeks, instead tending to our new puppy Whiskey, so I just looked through my archives and found this shot to share. Using Google Lens it appears to be red bryony. I shot it in Japan in September 2023 on a wasabi farm with a Panasonic Lumix GX7 with 3D lens, using frame sides for phantogram processing.
According to Wikipedia "Bryonia dioica, known by the common names red bryony and white bryony, also English mandrake or ladies' seal, is a perennial climbing vine indigenous to Central and Southern Europe. It is a flowering plant in the cucumber family Cucurbitaceae with five-pointed leaves and blue or white flowers."
This past weeks has been tragic for much of southern California. Much like the devastation in Lahaina in 2023 we're seeing large populated areas totally destroyed, due much to living in canyons when hot Santa Ana desert winds blow through. Gusts in the range of 80-100 miles per hour turn any small fire into a big one. I only personally know one person who's lost his home this past week, but many to most of my friends speak of knowing at least a few friends who've suddenly become homeless from the fires. In Long Beach we're nowhere near the fire zone, but the air has been smoky and stinky with significant amounts of ash falling.
